 Cairnie's Quay

Cairnie's Quay Mooring Association is a small, volunteer-run group based in Largs on Scotland’s west coast.

We manage 28 moorings, most of which are privately owned. While we do not currently have dedicated visitor moorings, we may be able to help arrange short-term use.

The quay is a shared local space and we work to keep it open, usable and well cared for.

As well as maintaining the slipway and moorings, we support a range of people who use the water, including yacht owners, wild swimmers, scuba divers, paddleboarders, small craft users and anglers.

We are also building a stronger community around the quay by organising beach clean-ups, social meet-ups and activities that bring people together.

Looking after this place matters to us, not just for boating but for the environment, local wildlife and the people who use it now and in the future.

Work goes on throughout the year to maintain the moorings, slipway and quay, keeping the space safe and usable for everyone.

We are becoming more actively involved in developing the quay, with plans for improvements to the space on land and in the water. These include better facilities for visitors, safer access to the water, and changes that support how the quay is used day to day.

Alongside this, we are exploring new community and environmental projects that will help people connect more closely with the quay and its surroundings. One idea currently in development focuses on making the marine life within the quay more visible and accessible to the public.

There are lots of ways to be part of Cairnie's Quay, whether you have a boat or not. You can spend time at the quay, take part in activities as they develop, or become involved in the life of the space.

Moorings at the quay are privately owned, with a small number available for visitors. Information about availability and ownership can be provided on request.

Some people choose to get involved in practical ways, including beach clean-ups, caring for the slipway and small projects around the quay. Others simply come down, use the space and stay connected.

Most of our communication happens through our Facebook group, where we share updates and organise what is going on. It is the easiest way to keep in touch and see how to take part.

If you have an idea for the quay or something you would like to see happen, we would be glad to hear it.

Cairnie's Quay is maintained and developed through the time, effort and contributions of the people involved in it.

We raise funds to carry out essential maintenance and to support improvements to the quay and surrounding space.

This helps us keep it safe, accessible and well cared for.

If you would like to support what we do, you can contribute financially or take part in fundraising activities as they arise.
